TÖTM was designed as a twin to the Houston Methodist Hospital in the USA, with its foundation laid in 1991. It quickly developed and opened for service in 1996, just five years later.
TÖTM is established on a 24,000 square meter area, with a total enclosed space of 154,500 square meters. The center features a total of 39 operating rooms, 27 in the 16-story tower and 12 in the Liver Transplant Hospital. There are 317 intensive care beds, including 265 in the main building, 36 in the Liver Transplant Hospital, and 16 in the Oncology Hospital. The total bed capacity, including day beds and intensive care units, is 1,585, with 217 beds in the Oncology Hospital, 152 in the Liver Transplant Hospital, and the remainder in the main building.
Our Liver Transplant Hospital, the first and only one of its kind in the world, was completed and began operations in 2016.
In line with our rapid development and increased experience over 22 years, TÖTM has achieved several significant milestones. Since 2007, the hospital has implemented the TS EN ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System, and starting in January 2012, we incorporated the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management Systems, becoming the first university hospital with three certifications. In 2013, we integrated the TS 22000 Food Safety Management System, and in 2014, the Customer Satisfaction Management System, resulting in the integration of five management systems in total.
